Synopsis
It focuses on the daily routines of activists, squatters, anarchists, farmers and people the government considers “eco-terrorists”
If the aim of the documentary was to portray French eco-activists as backwards fringe groups using outdated technology and attacking the police without arguments, armed with inflatable boats designed for the swimming pool, and to further pressure viewers to hate with endlessly long shots where nothing happens, then it kind of gets the job done.
However, I doubt that was the intended purpose
Seriously, in 3.5 hours it would be possible to tell the whole story with all the opinions and explanations that obviously exist.
The average shot feels like 10 minutes, 10 minutes where nothing is explained
Instead, the viewer is forced to watch 3.5 hours of either actions that seem simply stupid and ineffective by today’s standards, or simply nothing at all.
Then another 10 minutes where nothing is explained
And so on until the triumphant end.
No, that is a bad approach for a documentary
It is up to the viewer to provide an explanation for what is happening.
